The Ministry of National Defense (MApN) informs that, on Thursday evening, training flights were carried out by the military aviation over Dobrogea region.

The quoted source states that "the flights were training and no firing was carried out", in the context in which several people in the area called the emergency number 112 and reported aircraft and so-called "explosions" they allegedly have seen or heard.

"Most likely, the citizens who became alarmed about these flights noticed the effect produced by the transition of aircraft from subsonic to supersonic flight, the so-called 'sonic boom'. The military aircraft performed the training flights in strict compliance with the rules regarding the minimum heights allowed when flying over inhabited areas", the MApN points out.

Since Wednesday, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure together with the Ministry of National Defense have imposed additional flight restrictions in the airspace adjacent to the border with Ukraine in the northern area of Dobrogea, between Sulina and Galati, at 20-30 kilometers inside the national airspace, up to the height of 4,000 meters.

Piloted or unmanned aircraft are not allowed to fly in these restricted areas, with the exception of state aircraft (including medical aircraft and those in emergency situations).

"Against the background of the intensification of Russian attacks on the Ukrainian ports on the Danube, measures were necessary to extend the restrictions in order to ensure a more efficient capacity for monitoring and controlling the use of airspace", the MApN informs in a statement sent to AGERPRES.

The notification regarding the addition of flight restrictions - NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) type - was sent on the official communication channels by the competent civil and military aeronautical authorities, the Ministry of Defense informs.

Also, the MApN shows that the flight of civil aircraft in the aerodrome control area of Tulcea airport is not affected.
