The Minister of Culture, Andras Istvan Demeter, ordered the establishment of a control commission at the "George Enescu" National Museum in Bucharest to verify the preservation of the composer's manuscripts.

"Following complaints regarding the way in which George Enescu's manuscripts, assets classified in the Treasure category, as well as other heritage objects, are preserved during the renovation works, the Minister of Culture, Andras Istvan Demeter, ordered the establishment of a control commission at the "George Enescu" National Museum in Bucharest," the Ministry of Culture announced on Tuesday.

The Commission will verify the reported issues, analyze the conservation conditions during the renovation and evaluate the management of cultural assets, with the possibility of extending control over all elements considered relevant.

"There is confidence that, throughout this process, there will be open and responsible collaboration from the institution within which the control will be carried out," the ministry also reports.

According to information published in the press, "the great composer's manuscripts, including that of the opera 'Oedipus', as well as personal objects, pieces of furniture, photographs and numerous other movable assets classified in the Treasury or in the National Heritage fund, have been kept in open-air containers for four and a half years, exposed to extreme climatic variations."

The relocation of the Enescu manuscripts was imposed by the opening, five years ago, of the construction site for the restoration works of the "George Enescu" National Museum - Cantacuzino Palace.

Last summer, the Ministry of Culture announced the adoption of a government decision allowing the extension of one of the largest investment programs in cultural heritage, carried out with the support of the Council of Europe Development Bank (CEDB), for another four years. The decision would ensure the continuation of the consolidation and restoration works at two emblematic sites in Bucharest - the 'George Enescu' National Museum - the 'Cantacuzino' Palace and the 'Dr. Ioan and Nicolae Kalinderu' Museum - and ensure their completion by June 30, 2029.
