A lorry loaded with 21 tonnes of waste exported from Austria headed for a company in Romania, was denied entry into Romania, after it was found that the shipment was illegal, inform agerpres.ro.

The vehicle was checked at the Nadlac II border crossing and was driven by a Romanian.

"The driver was transporting, according to the cargo manifest, aluminium from a commercial company in Austria for a company in Romania. As there were suspicions about the legality of the shipment, border guards requested authorised support from the Arad County Commissariat with the Arad National Environmental and Consumer Protection Guard. Checks revealed that the truck was actually loaded with 21,100 kilograms of waste for which the driver failed to present the necessary documentation for the importation of such products," the Arad Border Police informed on Friday.

The waste shipment was ordered to be returned to the sender.
