Two lorries loaded with waste from France and Belgium, totalling about 18 tonnes have been denied entry into Romania at the Nadlac II border crossing, after being found that the shipments are illegal.

The lorries were checked by border police officers, commissioners of the Environmental Guard and representatives of the National Authority for Consumer Protection, who found that the drivers were Romanian and did not have the necessary documents for importing waste.

"Checks have revealed that the lorries were loaded with 17,982 kilograms of waste, consisting of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, plastics, second-hand tires, furniture, gardening tools, metal gates and various household objects, goods that came from commercial companies in France and Belgium, for companies in Romania," the Arad Border Police informed on Thursday.

The two shippers were ordered to return the waste to the two countries.
