Romania will be represented by Acting President Ilie Bolojan at Wednesday's second summit dedicated to Ukraine, organized by France, political sources told AGERPRES.

France intends to host on Wednesday a second meeting dedicated to Ukraine and European security, but this time it has invited European countries and Canada, which were not present at Monday's summit in Paris, Reuters reported. Two diplomatic sources said that the invited countries are Norway, Canada, Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia, the Czech Republic, Finland, Greece, Romania, Sweden and Belgium. Some countries could participate via videoconference, two diplomats said.

On Monday, leaders from Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, Poland, Spain, the Netherlands and Denmark met in Paris at the invitation of President Emmanuel Macron, along with the European Union leadership and the NATO secretary general, to discuss the latest developments in Ukraine, in the context of peace initiatives launched by the new U.S. Administration. According to EU officials, some countries were unhappy that the meeting was only for certain leaders and was not a summit of the entire European Union.

The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) said on Tuesday that the Paris meeting a day ago was initiated by French President Emmanuel Macron, in a format known as Weimar Plus.

It included the president of the European Council, the president of the European Commission, the secretary general of NATO and a number of heads of state and government of European countries that are major supporters of Ukraine.

"Romania, in its dual capacity - the European neighbor with the longest border with Ukraine and the country that has consistently and from the beginning offered multidimensional, humanitarian, economic and military support to the neighboring country - has a direct interest in continuing the collective European and Euro-Atlantic support for Ukraine, as a response to the brutal and illegal war of aggression by the Russian Federation. This was clearly conveyed to the participants, primarily to the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, through diplomatic efforts," the MAE stated in a press release.

At the same time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized, Romania was represented at the meeting through Poland, which holds the rotating presidency of the European Union.

"Regional formats such as those proposed and animated by Romania, for example the B9 or the Three Seas Initiative, are a common practice. Romania was informed about the content of the discussion. New meetings are coming in which Romania will participate", the MAE informed.
