Unemployment rate in Romania, down to 2.9pct in July 2023
The July 2023 unemployment rate nationwide in Romania was 2.9%, down 0.01 percentage points on a monthly basis, the National Employment Agency (ANOFM) reports, told Agerpres.
The total number of unemployed at the end of July 2023 was 227,617, down 541 on a monthly basis.
Of the total registered unemployed, 36,272 were drawing unemployment benefits and 191,345 were not. The number of unemployed people on benefits decreased by 794, and the number of unemployed people on no unemployment benefits increased by 253, both on a monthly basis.
By residence, 66,711 of the unemployed were in urban areas and 160,906 in the countryside.
The number of unemployed women on July 31, 2023 was 109,813, while the number of unemployed men was 117,804.
Most of the unemployed were between 40 and 49 years old (54,425), followed by those over 55 years old (46,639), while the fewest were people between 25 and 29 years old (14,880).
By level of education, the unemployed without formal education and those with primary education have a significant weight in the total number of the unemployed registered with ANOFM (28.72%). The unemployed with a secondary education made up 32.40% of the total registered unemployed, and those with a university education 4.94%.
