The Theatre Union of Romania (UNITER) is mourning the death of stage and film actor Mircea Albulescu, calling him an emblem of Romanian drama.

UNITER says Albulescu was "one of the biggest Romanian actors, a beloved professor that shaped tens of generations of artists, as well as a doctor in arts, publicist, poet and prose writer."

"A serious, unique, unmistakable voice, one of the last aristocrats of Romanian drama, a total artist that for 60 years performed hundreds of parts on the stages of the Bucharest Municipal Theatre, the Comedy Theatre and the National Theatre of Bucharest, as well as unforgettable parts in more than 70 films and 300 parts in remarkable radio dramas," UNITER said in a press statement on Friday.

He is the recipient of numerous prizes, including the UNITER prize for his activity in 2005; the Romanian Ministry of Culture's prize for his entire artistic activity in 2003, and the excellence prize of the Radio Romania Cultural Gala in 2015, reads the statement.
