The National Weather Administration (ANM) has issued a code yellow warning of unsettled weather for 20 counties and Bucharest City valid today from noon to 21:00hrs.
In the continental area of Dobrogea, southern Moldavia and most of Muntenia, Maramures, northern Crisana, northwest Transylvania and northern Eastern Carpathians, there will be spells of unsettled weather that would include gusty winds of 55-70 km/h, hail, dry lightning and torrential showers.
Covered by the warning are the counties of Satu Mare, Maramures, Salaj, Bihor, Galati, Vrancea, Buzau, Braila, Prahova, Ialomita, Calarasi, Dambovita, Giurgiu, Teleorman, Ilfov and Bucharest City, in full, and parts of the counties of Cluj, Bistrita-Nasaud, Suceava, Constanta and Tulcea.
Code red of punishing heatwave and thermal discomfort valid in most of the country remains in force today. Highs will vary between 37 and 42 degrees Celsius, and 33 - 36 degrees Celsius on the Black Sea cost. Thermal discomfort will be particularly high, with the temperature-humidity index (THI) expected to exceed critical 80.
Only the counties of Maramures, Bistrita-Nasaud, Harghita and Mures will be under code orange of heatwave and thermal discomfort, as the rest of the country stays under code red. In the four counties, the heatwave will be pertinacious. It will be hot, with highs of 35 - 37 degrees Celsius and the temperature-humidity index (THI) expected to exceed critical 80 .
According to the latest forecasts, on Wednesday, July 17, another code orange of heat will come into force in Maramures and locally in nearby Crisana, Transylvania and northern Moldavia, where the heat wave will persist. It will be hot, with highs of between 33 - 37 degrees Celsius.
Also, a code red will be in force on the same day in Banat, Oltenia, Muntenia, Dobrogea, in most of Moldavia and in the south of Transylvania and Crisana. Highs between 37 and 42 degrees Celsius, and on the Black Sea coast of 33 - 36 degrees Celsius. Lows will not drop below 22 - 24 degrees Celsius, which means tropical nights are expected.
