Prime Minister, Viorica Dancila, addressing on Thursday a meeting of the Social-Democrat pensioners, said that she will not resign as long as she has the support of the leader of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) Liviu Dragnea and that of the PSD - ALDE ruling coalition.

"Today or yesterday I saw that the estimates of the National Institute of Statistics (INS) had been released and that we have economic growth, that Romania is on the right track and this track Romania is engaged on is based on the governing program and is supported by you, Romania's pensioners. This is why I was expecting recognition for this result - just like when you get good grades. Yet it seems not everybody thinks that way. I therefore feel compelled to tell you here, at the National Council of the Social Democratic Party's Organization of Pensioners, that under no circumstance will I resign, not as long as I have the support of the party's leader, as long as I am backed by the ruling coalition and I have your support," Premier Viorica Dancila told the meeting.

Dancila underscored that she has the responsibility to steer the country away from instability.

"I am a responsible person, I have served in the European Parliament for 9 years and I have a responsibility to the citizens of Romania, to Romania, to keep the right track so as to not create instability in my country. (...) I want everyone to see Romania as an example set by PSD in terms of economic growth, and I want to carry further this mandate we set off with and where you, the pensioners of Romania, play an essential role," Dancila explained.

The PM underscored that she relies on the support of the pensioners.

"I am relying on your strength, your expertise, your support, and I think we can turn Romania into the country our pensioners and our children want, a country no one would want to leave any more, where we are capable of investments, a country with a governing program capable of moving 1,500,000 citizens to the middle class. I think we can do all this together," Dancila said.

The head of the government also stressed that PSD looks at the pensioners as a priority.

"To the PSD, to me personally, to the party Chairman, Romania's pensioners and pensioner organizations have always been a priority. While others have learned to conjugate the verbs 'to cut', 'to pull down', we have learned to conjugate verbs like 'to grow', 'to build' and, together with you, we have tried and will further try to set a solid foundation by building Romania brick by brick," the PM said.

Dancila also emphasized the need for unity, commending the pensioners for never having moved away from this desideratum and from consensus.

"I know that we have the duty to take further what you have built. I want to carry this program through as long as I have the support of party Chairman Liviu Dragnea, and of the ruling coalition. I know there's a lot to be done and I know something everyone in Romania must appreciate: that you have always talked of unity, consensus, wisdom, inter-generational unity, and now, in the year of the Centennial, we need all this," Dancila said.

The Premier also mentioned the promise she made PSD Chairman Liviu Dragnea that she will carry through the governing program, which has the pensioners at its core.

Referring to delays in the payment of pensions Dancila said the issue has been settled by decision of the PSD National Standing Bureau so that all pension dues by paid by the 15th of each month.
