Wholesale and retail trade, maintenance and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles increased in the first eight months of 2025, both as gross series (+4.8 percent) and as adjusted series to the number of working days and seasonality (+4.3 percent), compared to the same period in 2024, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INS) data published Wednesday.
According to official statistics, between 1 January and 31 August 2025, as gross series, increases were reported in: maintenance and repair of motor vehicles (+20.4 percent), trade in motorcycles, parts and related accessories; maintenance and repair of motorcycles (+13 percent), trade in motor vehicles (+3.6 percent) and trade in motor vehicle parts and accessories (+1.8 percent).
At the same time, as adjusted series, the turnover rose by 4.3 percent year-on-year.
Furthermore, in August 2025, the total turnover volume in wholesale and retail trade, maintenance and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, as gross series, fell by 1.5 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, as a result of declines in: trade in motor vehicle parts and accessories (-4.2 percent), trade in motor vehicles (-1.2 percent) and trade in motorcycles, parts and related accessories; maintenance and repair of motorcycles (-1.1 percent). On the other hand, maintenance and repair of motor vehicles rose by 5 percent.
In the same type of trade, as adjusted series, the turnover recorded an increase of 4.5 percent in August 2025 compared to August 2024.
According to the quoted source, compared to July 2025, in August, the turnover in wholesale and retail trade, maintenance and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles decreased by 26.4 percent as gross series because of the negative results in motor vehicles trade (-30.1 percent), maintenance and repair of motor vehicles (-27.9 percent), trade in motorcycles, parts and related accessories; maintenance and repair of motorcycles (-22.1 percent) and trade in motor vehicle parts and accessories (-17.4 percent).
The total turnover volume in motor vehicle trade followed the same downward trend as adjusted series, decreasing by 7.7 percent from one month to the next.
