Romania needs an AI ecosystem that starts from real problems and reaches usable solutions, said Victor Vevera, the general director of the National Institute for Research and Development in Informatics - ICI Bucharest, on Wednesday, at the opening of the event "BSC AI Factory: From needs to solutions in AI".
"Romania needs an AI ecosystem that starts from real problems and reaches usable solutions. BSC AI Factory helps us build this path from idea and research, to validation and implementation. The event confirms that there are resources and partners capable of transforming artificial intelligence into a development engine for the economy and society," said Vevera, coordinator of the BSC AI Factory initiative.
According to a press release from ICI Bucharest, transmitted to AGERPRES, representatives of the IT&C industry, the start-up ecosystem, academia and public administration participated, on Wednesday, in "BSC AI Factory: From needs to solutions in AI", carried out within the BSC AI Factory initiative.
During the discussions, Romania's real needs in the field of AI were outlined and the steps through which an idea can become an applied solution were established.
The event agenda included presentations dedicated to the role of BSC AI Factory as a platform for collaboration between research and industry, as well as discussions about the infrastructure and tools that can support the development of AI applications relevant to Romania.
Participants also analyzed, within thematic panels, national priorities in artificial intelligence, implementation challenges in strategic sectors and the necessary conditions for accelerating technological transfer.
"The panel dedicated to Romania's needs in AI highlighted the need for relevant data sets, adapted regulatory frameworks and pilot projects to demonstrate the concrete impact of AI. The discussion further highlighted the importance of cooperation between public and private actors for the development of scalable, competitive products aligned with European standards. The final session reinforced the idea that the transition from research to market requires functional partnerships, rigorous testing and innovation support mechanisms," the press release reads.
BSC AI Factory, a project coordinated by the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC-CNS), represents one of the first European initiatives dedicated to the development of an integrated network of "Artificial Intelligence Factories" (AI Factories).
The initiative aims to democratize access to AI and HPC resources for start-ups, SMEs, public institutions and researchers, with the aim of accelerating innovation and digital transformation in Europe.
