The European Commissioner for Economy, Valdis Dombrovskis, announced on Tuesday that, thanks to the fiscal measures adopted this summer, the situation in Romania has improved, and the Commission will not propose, for now, the suspension of European funds, which confirms that the measures taken by the Government in recent months were correct and have started to yield results, said Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, inform Agerpres.

"Today we received a very important signal from the European Commission, which confirms that the measures taken by the Government in recent months were correct and have started to yield results. The European Commissioner for Economy, Valdis Dombrovskis, announced today that, thanks to the fiscal measures adopted this summer, the situation in Romania has improved, and the Commission will not propose now the suspension of European funds," Ilie Bolojan wrote on Facebook.

He explained what this announcement means for Romania.

"The Commission confirms that our actions have been effective. The Excessive Deficit Procedure remains suspended - that is, Romania is not subject to sanctions. The deficit is starting to decrease and the trend is maintained in the coming years. The increase in spending is kept under control and remains close to the recommended ceiling. We continue investments financed from European funds", Bolojan said.

In this context, the Prime Minister thanked Commissioner Dombrovskis for the constant dialogue and for the support shown to Romania in this difficult process.

"It is good news and a confirmation that the direction we have taken was the right one. In recent months, we have made difficult but necessary decisions. Today we see the first results: Romania is regaining its credibility. At the same time, the Commission's message is clear: we must continue on this path. This means taking forward the planned measures, improving revenue collection, reducing spending and putting order in the budget first. We will continue to work seriously, responsibly and with respect for public money", Bolojan also stated.
