Dozens of firefighters from the Orsova and Drobeta Turnu Severin Detachments are currently on a mission to locate and extinguish a wildfire that has broken out on the plant litter in the area of Svinita, Mehedinti County.
According to Mehedinti County Emergency Management Inspectorate (ISU), in order to identify and extinguish the fire outbreaks, action is taken on two extinguishing sectors, with mixed teams consisting of firefighters, rangers of the Iron Gates Natural Park, foresters and volunteers, who are using ATVs, containment bags, and special tools.
"Along with the firefighters, nine foresters of the Orsova Forestry District and 11 rangers of the Iron Gates Natural Park are participating. The mission is difficult due to the very rough terrain and the air currents that keep up combustion, the area being difficult to cross," says ISU Mehedinti.
The Ministry of National Defence has announced that two C-27J Spartan aircraft of the Romanian Air Force, configured for such missions, were sent in the afternoon to extinguish the wildfire.
