The writer and psychiatrist Ion Vianu died on Thursday, at the age of 90, in Morges, Switzerland, former Minister of Culture Vlad Alexandrescu announced on Facebook.

Psychiatrist and writer, Ion Vianu, son of the literary critic Tudor Vianu, was born on April 15, 1934, in Bucharest.
He studied classical philology, and later medicine.
Trained at the Teaching Clinic of Psychiatry at Obregia Hospital in Bucharest, a teaching staff member, Ion Vianu emigrated in 1977, protesting against the use of psychiatry for political purposes.
In Switzerland, he practices his specialty in the private milieu, being, on the other hand, active internationally in the field of human rights defense in psychiatry.
He has published articles and studies abroad on the history and philosophy of psychiatry.
After 1990, he signed articles in the pages of the "22" magazine, as well as in the "Lettre Internationale" magazine, edited by the Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR).
As an essayist, he debuted with the volume "Style and Person" (1975). He also published the volumes "Introduction to psychotherapy" (1975), "Memories in dialogue". Memoirs'' (in collaboration with Matei Calinescu, 1994), ''Paramnesia' (2005). The volumes "Ozias' Notebooks" (2004) and "Vasiliu, sheets of paper" (2006) are part of the cycle of novels "Archive of Pain and Anger".
Ion Vianu is among the authors of the texts in the volume "Why did I return to Romania", coordinated by Sandra Pralong and released in 2010. The volume brings together the stories of famous Romanians who returned and chose to live in Romania.
For the volume "Amor intellectualis", published by Polirom Publishing House, Ion Vianu received the Book of the Year Award 2010 awarded by Romania literara magazine, and for the book "Investigatii mateine. Amintiri", published by Polirom Publishing House, he was awarded the Romulus Rusan Prize for the year 2022.
