Border police officers from the Calafat - Vidin Border Crossing Point (PTF) discovered, following a check carried out on a truck transporting car parts on the Bulgaria - UK route, a total quantity of 128,800 smuggled cigarettes, worth about 148,000 lei, Agerpres reports.
''On 11.07.2024, at around 09:30, at the Calafat-Vidin Border Crossing Point, a Bulgarian citizen, aged 57, came in on the entry direction into the country, driving a truck, transporting car parts on the Bulgaria-UK route. Following the border control carried out on the means of transportation, the joint control team of Romanian and Bulgarian border police officers discovered, in the cargo compartment and in the truck's cab, a total quantity of 128,800 cigarettes (6,440 packets of cigarettes), with Bulgarian tax stamp, for which the driver had no documents of origin," the Border Police informed on Saturday.
The entire quantity of cigarettes, estimated at a value of about 148,000 lei, was confiscated by police officers for further investigations.
The Bulgarian driver was charged with the crime of possession by any person outside the tax warehouse or the commercialization on the Romanian territory of excise products subject to marking, according to this title, unmarked or improperly marked or with false markings over the limit of 10,000 cigarettes, and legal solutions will be proposed by the prosecutor's office when the investigations are completed.
