The general VAT rate will remain at 19%, and there will also be a second VAT rate of 9% for food, medicines, firewood, energy and books, Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) President Kelemen Hunor said.
He made the remarks in response to a question about a potential VAT increase.
'At the moment, the joint decision is for the 19% VAT rate to remain unchanged - it will not be raised. I am referring to VAT - and there will be a second rate of 9%. This will apply to food, medicines, firewood, energy, and, at my request, books - books will remain at 9%,' Kelemen Hunor said on Monday at Parliament.
