The Body of Expert and Licensed Accountants of Romania (CECCAR) is organising the 25th edition of the Congress of the Accounting Profession in Romania at the Palace of Parliament on Tuesday and Wednesday, under the theme Smart Accounting powered by AI.

According to a press release from the organisers, the event will bring together international leaders, Romanian experts, institutions and authorities to shape the future of the economy, as the accounting profession undergoes profound transformation.

CECCAR's most important event of the year is dedicated to the role of artificial intelligence in transforming the accounting profession, as well as the business environment and its partnership with institutions and authorities.

'How is artificial intelligence redefining the essence' of the profession?' This is the central question of the Congress and will be the focus of two days of discussions among finance and accounting professionals, representatives from the business world, regulatory institutions and authorities, academia, as well as leading international organisations in the area. These discussions will explore three dimensions of Smart Accounting: business compliance, business advice and business security, the press release reads.

The debates will examine the impact of artificial intelligence on the accounting profession - from operational efficiency to ethics, voluntary tax compliance and the investigation of economic fraud.

The essence of the accounting profession is not disappearing, but being redefined - with an emphasis on analytical expertise, strategic thinking and the ability to interpret complex data, in a human-technology symbiosis adapted to an ever-changing economic context. Rapid advances in artificial intelligence are radically transforming the financial-accounting landscape and enabling companies and accounting firms to reach a higher level of efficiency, accuracy and strategic insight, the release highlights.

The programme for the first day of the Congress includes the official opening of the event, messages from institutional partners and the plenary session.

The second day will be dedicated to three thematic panels, organised in partnership with prestigious international organisations: Challenges, opportunities and ethics of using AI in SMPs (organised with Accountancy Europe), Taxation and automation driven by AI (organised with ETAF), Artificial Intelligence in forensic accounting: transforming investigation, detection and prevention of economic fraud.
