The Suceava municipality sent on Tuesday to the city of Chernivtsi, close to Ukraine's western border with Romania, a new humanitarian shipment consisting of 5 tonnes of staple foods, city mayor Ion Lungu announced.

He said that the transport contains white flour, corn, sugar and sunflower oil and that these staples had been expressly requested by the Chernivtsi authorities that are overwhelmed by the large number of refugees.

This is the sixth aid shipment Suceava sends its longtime twin municipality of Chernivtsi since the outbreak of the Ukraine war, Agerpres.ro informs.

"So far we sent over 30 tons of food to Chernivtsi. We recently had a meeting with local authorities from France, near Paris, that was also attended by Professor Sanda Maria Ardeleanu as representative of the French Alliance, and by Mr. Sub-Prefect Cristian Sologon. The French asked for our help to take humanitarian aid to Ukraine and especially to Chernivtsi and we expressed our full willingness to cooperate," Lungu said.

Suceava mayor Ion Lungu thanked the "Blood for Romania" Foundation for providing free transport for the aid to Chernivtsi.
