The Development Minister, Cseke Attila, stated that the Government intends to establish the National Center for Cycling Coordination (CNCV) within the Ministry of Development, Public Works and Administration, and the creation for operationalization, at the national level, of 3,000 cyclo-tourism routes, with a dedicated budget of 247,5 million euro.
"Romania has a grand potential in the domain of cyclo-tourism, but which, at this time, has an extremely reduced level of capitalization, one of the causes being the lack of specific infrastructure, mainly the lack of marked routes for cyclo-tourism," mentioned the Development Minister, in a press release.
Thus, the normative act established the types, characteristics and classification of cyclo-tourism routes depending on the territorial level (national, regional and local), the type of difficulty (easy, medium and difficult), and shape (linear or circuit), certification, administration and financing of cyclo-tourism routes, as well as the regulation of the roles and attributes of the CNCV, Agerpres.ro informs.
At the same time, an eVelo national platform and a digital app for smartphones will be developed, in view of providing thematic information about cyclo-tourism and a study will be elaborated regarding the territorial distribution of cyclo-tourism routes at the national level, on the basis of key criteria (for example, reducing traffic congestion, promoting eco-tourism), identifying the relevant actors and integrating the existing initiatives to consolidate the natural and cultural patrimony.
"The cyclo-tourism routes will allow Romania to participate and contribute to the reconfiguration of the European route network EuroVelo and the various international cyclo-tourism routes," emphasized Cseke Attila.
According to him, this will encourage the development of ecotourism and the use of bicycles as an alternative transport means.
