980 African swine fever outbreaks, 64 mln lei in compensations granted so far

The African swine fever (PPA) is currently evolving in 240 localities of 13 counties with a number of 980 outbreaks (of which 15 in industrial units) and 80 cases in wild boars, on Thursday announced the National Sanitary Veterinary Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA) in a press release sent to AGERPRES.

As many as 343,662 ill pigs have been culled, the compensations amounting to more than 64 million lei.

According to the cited source, 5 outbreaks have been eradicated to date in Satu Mare County and no outbreak has been recorded in this county since 31 August 2018.

Similarly, no new outbreaks of ASF have been recorded in Bihor County since 8 August and in Tulcea County, the meat processing unit belonging to S.C.Carniprod SRL resumed its activity on 14 August 2018.

"These results were made possible due to the operative and efficient application of the set of the zoosanitary measures for combating the African swine fever (PAP) and to the citizens who have understood to support the authorities in implementing the necessary actions," reads the release.

As many as 5,916 owners have been compensated so far, the payments amounting to 64 million lei.

The presence of the African swine fever was signalled for the first time on 31 July 2017, in Satu-Mare County.
