9,884 new COVID-19 cases in over 63k tests in past 24 hrs, death toll reaches 59,180; Incidence rate continues to increase in Bucharest - 4.1 cases

As many as 9,884 new cases of people infected with SARS-CoV-2 were recorded in the last 24 hours, 99 more than the previous day, with more than 63,000 tests being carried out, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) reported on Friday, Agerpres reports.

Of the new cases, 1,047 are in reinfected patients, tested positive for more than 180 days after the first infection.

As of Friday, 1,885,771 cases of infection with the novel coronavirus have been registered in Romania, of which 18,165 are in reinfected patients, tested positive at a period longer than 180 days after the first passage through the disease.

According to GCS, 1,773,435 patients were declared cured.

At the national level, 11,308,947 RT-PCR tests and 6,523,888 rapid antigen tests were processed.

In the last 24 hours, 20,613 RT-PCR tests were performed (10,356 based on case definition and medical protocol and 10,257 on request) and 42,604 rapid antigen tests.

Apart from the newly confirmed cases, following the retesting of patients who were already positive, 458 people were reconfirmed positive with COVID-19.

A total of 30 deaths - 17 men and 13 women - in patients infected with the novel coronavirus were reported in the last 24 hours, three of which were prior to the reference interval, the GCS reported.

Of the 30 deaths, one was recorded in the age category 40 - 49 years, five in the age category 50 - 59 years, three in the age category 60 - 69 years, eight in the age category 70 - 79 years and 13 in the age category over 80 years.

According to GCS, all 30 patients had a medical history of illness.

Of the total 30 patients who died in the last 24 hours, 24 were unvaccinated and six were COVID vaccinated. The six patients vaccinated were between the ages of 50 and 59 and over 80 years.

The three deaths prior to the reference interval were recorded in Giurgiu County, one in November 2021 and two in December 2021.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 59,180 people diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection have died in Romania.

A number of 3,490 people infected with SARS-CoV-2 are hospitalized in health facilities, of which 230 are children, the GCS announced. According to the source, 456 patients are hospitalized in the ICU wards, including ten children.

Of the patients admitted to intensive care, 49 have a certificate attesting to the anti-COVID vaccination.

According to the data existing in the application of the alerte.ms, at national level, there are 1,273 ICU beds for COVID-19 patients, of which 311 in Bucharest.

On the territory of Romania, 41,886 people confirmed with infection with the novel coronavirus are in isolation at home, and 3,453 in institutional isolation. Also, 53,552 people are in home quarantine and 335 are in institutional quarantine.

Police and gendarmes applied, in the last 24 hours, 1,292 contravention sanctions, totaling 236,400 RON, as a result of violating the provisions of Law 55/2020 on some steps to prevent and combat the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, GCS said.

The COVID-19 incidence rate calculated at 14 days for Bucharest is, on Friday, 4.1 cases per thousand population, up from the previous day, when it was 3.63, according to the Public Health Directorate.

The highest infection rate with SARS-CoV-2 in Bucharest was reached on October 22 - 16.54 cases per thousand population.
