Romania and seven other states have signed, with the European Commission, the grant agreement for the realization of the "Drugs under control - increasing the capacity to apply the European law against criminality in drug trafficking" project, financed by the Internal Security Fund - Police, told Agerpres.
"The project will contribute to the development of international cooperation and coordination mechanisms, by participating in study visits and training workshops, as well as the exchange of good practices," a press release from the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police (IGPR) sent to AGERPRES on Wednesday, reads.
The main goal of the project is to strengthen the law enforcement capacity of the partners in the project - respectively the General Inspectorate of the Regional Police in Lublin, the Nadbuzanski Border Guard Unit, the Berlin Police, the Bulgarian National Police, the Spanish National Police, the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police, the Estonian and Border Police and the National Police of the Kingdom of the Netherlands - in the field of targeting illicit drug trafficking.
Cocaine and new psychoactive substances are particularly targeted, and the development of existing information exchange between law enforcement agencies in the European Union is pursued, through the collection of operational information and a better understanding of trends in drug-related crime.
"Police experts from the partner countries of the project will improve their knowledge of legal regulations, existing drug trafficking channels, procedures and methods applied during the dismantling of illegal drug laboratories. The project will contribute to the development of international cooperation and coordination mechanisms, by participating to study visits and training workshops, as well as to the exchange of good practices," the source says.
The total value of the project is 284,984 euros. The realization of the project started on February 1, 2022 and will run until December 31, 2023.
