Immigration police officers in February conducted over 500 actions and checks that led to the finding of 272 illegal immigrants.
"In the case of 56 of them, the measure of placement in public custody centres was imposed, to be removed under escort. For the others, return measures were ordered or they were instructed to comply. Also, as a result of the checks, 271 fines were handed," the General Inspectorate for Immigration (IGI) reported on Tuesday.
The purpose of the actions was to verify compliance with the regulations in force and to sanction irregularities.
"Every day, immigration police officers are on duty and act responsibly to protect the safety of the public, combat illegal migration and support foreigners who choose to follow the rules and build a future in Romania," according to IGI.
