Romania's Ana Barbosu on Thursday won the bronze medal in the women's all-around final at the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Leipzig, Germany.
Barbosu, a floor bronze medallist at the 2024 Paris Olympics, totalled 52.299 points. She could have won a more brilliant medal, but she failed on beam, receiving only 11.633 points. She got 13.700 on floor, 13.433 on vault and 13.533 on uneven bars.
The gold medal went to Italian Manila Esposito, 54.965 points, and the silver to Spain's Alba Petisco, 53.265 points.
Last time Romania won a European all-around medal was in 2013, when Larisa Iordache won silver.
Denisa Golgota, who recently returned to competition after a long break, ranked a deserving seventh, 51.732 points, after being scored 12.833 on floor, 13.233 on vault, 12.966 on uneven bars and 12.700 on beam.
Barbosu was supposed to compete on Wednesday evening in the mixed team final, but Romania opted out, choosing to focus on the women's all-around final.
Barbosu had finished the qualifiers with the second score in the all-around, and Golgota was 11th.
Barbosu will also compete in the floor and beam finals, and Denisa Golgota on beam. Barbosu qualified for the floor final with the second highest mark, 13.600, and the beam final with the fourth highest, 13.600. Golgota qualified 8th for the beam final.
Following German gymnast Helen Kevric's withdrawal from the uneven bars final due to an injury, Barbosu will compete instead as a first reserve, vying for a place on the medal podium, the Romanian Gymnastics Federation announced in a social media post. AGERPRES
