The Romanian state, through the Brasov Regional Directorate General of Public Finance (DGRFP), has filed a lawsuit seeking to compel former president Klaus Iohannis to pay compensation for the non-use of a 1/2 share in a property located in central Sibiu.

"The Romanian state, through the DGRFP, has filed a lawsuit seeking to compel a former president of Romania to pay compensation for the non-use of a 1/2 share in a property located in central Sibiu. The action represents a continuation of the ANAF's efforts to have the state's property rights recognised and to recover compensation resulting from the non-use of this property," a release of the National Agency of Fiscal Administration (ANAF) mentioned.

According to the quoted source, taking into account that the defendants, namely the Iohannis family, refused to pay voluntarily, the lawsuit also requested the court to impose precautionary measures on their assets to guarantee the recovery of the amounts owed to the State.

"We assure the public opinion that all legal measures will be promptly undertaken to defend the interests of the Romanian State," the ANAF representatives said.

In early October, the ANAF announced in a release that it had legally taken over half of a property in Sibiu, located on Nicolae Balcescu Street, No.29 - formerly owned by the Iohannis family - following a vacant inheritance claimed by the Romanian state, through which it acquired co-ownership rights.

The Agency's president, Adrian Nica, said at the time that the ANAF had no indications that the Iohannis spouses intended to pay the amounts owed for the property in Sibiu and would proceed to file a lawsuit against both spouses, also requesting precautionary measures in addition to the payment of the amount.
