Film director Andrei Epure's debut feature film "Don't Let Me Die"/"Nu ma lasa sa mor" will have its world premiere on Tuesday, at the Locarno International Film Festival, within the Cineastri del Presente section, dedicated to emerging voices in world cinema, Saga Film informs in a press release sent to AGERPRES on Monday.

This cinematic debut brings a poetic and mysterious story. Maria wanders through a seaside town for the funeral of her enigmatic neighbour, Isabela, who is said to have talked to trees. As the nights grow longer, she adopts Isabela's dogs, meets her son and meets a woodcutter who is afraid to fall asleep, according to the film's presentation.

"I am happy that the film is being seen for the very first time in Locarno and, at the same time, I am slightly terrified. The Locarno Film Festival is also the first festival I have ever been to. (...) I thank everyone who worked on my first feature film and everyone who has inspired me in one way or another all these years," said Andrei Epure, quoted in the press release.

The world premiere will be available to watch on Tuesday, at PalaCinema 1, with Andrei Epure (director, screenwriter), Cosmina Stratan (lead actress), Laurentiu Raducanu (director of photography), Alexandra-Alma Ungureanu (set and costume designer), Dragos Apetri (editor), Alex Teodorescu (producer), Ana Gheorghe (producer and co-screenwriter), Ana Ciobanu (co-producer and production manager), Theo Nissim (co-producer) in attendance.

"It's becoming increasingly complicated to make a film without thinking about the public or festivals, and then I think it's wrong to consider them unimportant. However, I didn't sense any hidden agendas or success schemes in Andrei Epure's proposal, I felt that his truth, ours, our preferences took precedence," said Cosmina Stratan.

The film will also have screenings during the same festival on August 13, at L'altra Sala, and on August 14, at PalaCinema 2 and PalaCinema 3.

"Don't Let Me Die" is a Romania-Bulgaria-France co-production, made with the support of CNC Romania, Bulgarian National Film Centre, Aide aux Cinémas du Monde - CNC - Institut Français and SEE Cinema Network.

The film is produced by Saga Film, in co-production with Handplayed, Tomsa Films, Arrogant Films and Conceptual Lab by Theo Nissim.

"Don't Let Me Die" will be released in cinemas in Romania on December 5.
