A number of 22 counties in Muntenia, Transylvania, Moldova and Dobrogea are under a code yellow alert for snow and blizzard on Monday, according to the National Meteorological Administration (ANM).

So, until Monday, 11:00 am, 14 counties, namely Caras-Severin, Arges, Teleorman, Olt, Dolj, Valcea and (in the mountainous area) Mehedinti, Gorj, Hunedoara, Sibiu, Alba, Brasov, Dambovita and Prahova, will be facing a code yellow alert for snowfalls. These areas will be hit mostly by heavy snowfalls, with a thick layer of snow to form locally.

Also, by Monday, 22:00 EET, the counties of Galati, Vrancea, Buzau, Braila, Ialomita, Calarasi, Constanta and Tulcea will be under code yellow warnings for strong winds and blizzard. The said counties will be mostly hit by snowfalls, with the wind to blow by 65-75 km/h in general, storming the snow and reducing visibility.

According to the ANM, the regions of Dobrogea, Banat, Crisana, Southern Oltenia and Southern and Eastern Muntenia should expect rain, sleet, snowfalls and strong winds, until Monday evening at 22:00 EET.

Precipitations will be gradually spreading, starting from the Western regions, to the entire country. In the southern half of the country and in the mountainous area, water quantities will reach 10-15 l/sqm in remote regions, especially in Dobrogea, 30-35 l/sqm.

Until Monday morning, in Dobrogea there will be mostly rainfalls, and in Banat, Crisana, Southern Oltenia, as well as in Southern and Eastern Muntenia there will be mixed precipitations. In the other regions, on Monday, and in the Southern and South-Eastern areas there will be mostly snowfalls and a new snow layer will be formed. Temporarily, the wind will blow strongly in the Western and Southern part of the territory, at speeds of 45-55 km/h, and on the mountain tops, at speeds of 60-70 km/h.

In the South-Eastern regions, the wind will continue to blow strongly on Monday night to Tuesday (January 22-23) shattering the snow.

Meteorologists have also issued a weather forecast for the city of Bucharest, announcing snowfalls and sleet, valid until Monday evening, at 22:00 EET.

Thus, in the first part of Monday (January 22), there will temporary be precipitations, first rain and sleet and then mostly snow. A new layer of snow will be formed, up to 6 - 8 cm thick, on average, and possibly up to 10 to 12 centimeters thick in remote areas.

Also, the wind will blow strongly in the first part of Monday (January 22) with wind gusts of 40-45 km/h. The minimum temperature will be around 0 degrees and the maximum will be 1 to 2 degrees Celsius.
