Annual Meeting of Romanian Diplomacy: Romania is trusted partner in decade of change

Romania is a "trusted partner in a decade of change", that was one of the conclusions of the Annual Meeting of Romanian Diplomacy (RADR), held on Monday and Tuesday, according to a press release sent by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE).

Among the main topics on the meeting's agenda were Romania's active role in consolidating regional security, accelerating economic diplomacy and advancing OECD accession efforts.

The working sessions were held at the Palace of Parliament, with the participation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Oana Toiu, under the theme "A decade of change: the impact of Romanian diplomacy". The debates confirmed Romania's priorities in consolidating regional security, accelerating economic diplomacy and advancing OECD accession efforts.

RADR 2025 provided the opportunity for dialogues with ministers, Romanian and foreign officials, representatives of European and Euro-Atlantic institutions, as well as of the economic and academic environment.

From the central administration, the opening session was attended by: the President of the Senate, Mircea Abrudean, the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Sorin Grindeanu, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Oana Toiu. Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan also had "an open and honest dialogue" with the ambassadors and consuls general of Romania, within a special session.

During the plenary working sessions, the heads of diplomatic missions and consular offices were addressed by international officials such as the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas (via videoconference), the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, Mihai Popsoi, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland, Radoslaw Sikorski (via videoconference), the Deputy Secretary General of NATO, Radmila Šekerinska (via videoconference) and the Executive Vice President of the European Commission, Roxana Minzatu.

This year's edition also included a video message from the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Finland, Elina Valtonen, as well as the participation of the Presidential Advisor Luminita Odobescu in the working session dedicated to the future of the European Union.

"You can count on Romania! Romania remains a predictable and helpful partner, oriented towards concrete results for citizens and the international community", declared the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Oana Toiu. She emphasized that Romanian diplomacy plays a decisive role in transforming the challenges of the last decade into opportunities for Romania and the region.

The central message of RADR 2025 reaffirmed Romania's commitment to regional stability, European and transatlantic cooperation, as well as support for Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova.

The discussions in the session dedicated to the "new strategic realities" emphasized the need to strengthen the deterrence and defense posture in the Black Sea, comprehensive support for Ukraine and advancing the European integration of the Republic of Moldova.

The Romania - Republic of Moldova consultations focused on interconnections, critical infrastructure projects and sectoral cooperation, including in the field of European Affairs.

Participants highlighted the role of diplomatic missions in promoting investments and exports, connecting Romanian companies to value chains and facilitating the transfer of OECD standards in the economy and administration. The target of joining the OECD in 2026 was reconfirmed as a work benchmark.

The RADR included thematic sessions dedicated to economic diplomacy and the OECD, the new regional strategic reality, the future of the European Union and the perspective of an enlarged, safer and more prosperous Europe. These were hosted by the State Secretaries in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Clara Staicu, Ana Tinca and Luca Niculescu.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Minister Oana Toiu held bilateral consultations with her counterpart from the Republic of Moldova, Mihai Popsoi, followed by a joint press conference.
