The Minister of Energy, Sebastian Burduja, signed on Friday new financing contracts with 47 other public entities for investments in renewable electricity production capacities for self-consumption, financed from the Modernization Fund, the total value of the investments amounting to almost 325 million RON.
According to a press release from the relevant ministry, the contracts signed on Friday with several local public institutions, within Key Program 1 - Renewable Energy Sources and Energy Storage, target photovoltaic park construction projects, which will produce clean energy for the self-consumption of public institutions.
The total value of the 47 financed projects is 324.725 million RON (65.266 million euros), and the total value of financing from the Modernization Fund is 296.287 million RON (59.55 million euros). Through these projects, a total capacity of 47.43 MW will be installed, intended exclusively for self-consumption in schools, hospitals, city halls and other public institutions.
"Each project we sign through the Modernization Fund represents a direct investment in the future of our communities. Romania is taking on, with responsibility and determination, the path to energy independence, a path that goes beyond simple numbers and installations. We are talking about concrete effects in people's lives: more efficient public institutions, reduced operational costs, a cleaner environment and increased stability for essential public services. With over 1,000 contracts signed, the Modernization Fund is becoming the most powerful investment instrument in the future of our communities. Each contract means more than a signature - it means a commitment to an energy-independent, clean and modern Romania. We are talking about schools that become more sustainable, hospitals that reduce energy costs, city halls that become models of efficiency and public services that work better for every Romanian. (...) We will continue, together with local authorities, to build energy autonomy networks, to digitalize systems and to support projects that bring real value to each community. 1,010 contracts signed. 1,010 steps towards a Romania that supplies itself with its own energy. We want Romania's energy to be produced at home - safe, cheap and green, in this order of priorities," declared Sebastian Burduja, Minister of Energy, quoted in the press release.
With Friday's signings, the balance of the call for financing for renewable energy through Key Program 1 reaches 1,010 contracts, for a total value of 2.744 billion RON (551.607 million euros), a total value of financing from the Modernization Fund of 2.414 billion RON (485.188 million euros). The total installed capacity thus exceeds 390 MW.
"These investments allow local authorities to become producers of renewable energy, with a direct impact on community budgets and the quality of life of citizens. In many cases, the installed capacities cover up to 70% of the energy needs of public institutions, which means lower bills and more money for public investments," the cited source emphasizes.
