The National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) reiterates its firm commitment to contribute, through its activity, to the strenghtening of the rule of law and the efficient fight against corruption in Romania, in the context of the publication, on Tuesday, of the European Commission's Rule of Law Report, which noted that "the authorities maintain a positive track record in combating corruption, including as regards high-level corruption cases".
In line with the findings of the European Commission according to which "in 2024, DNA obtained 391 final convictions and continued to process complex cases, although the overall workload remains substantial", DNA specifies that the institution's activity was supported by the professionalism of the staff, the stability of the team and the continued provision of the institution with modern equipment essential for criminal investigations, according to a press release sent to AGERPRES on Wednesday.
DNA believes that citizens' perception and their trust in judicial institutions are essential for the efficient fight against corruption. Thus, the institution reaffirms its commitment to act transparently, professionally and with respect for the law and society's expectations.
"Targeting high-risk areas such as central and local government, the energy sector, health and public procurement remain institutionally assumed priorities," the same source says.
DNA also supports the new strategic directions mentioned in the report, which refer to the future National Anti-Corruption Strategy post-2025, according to which "a new priority will be to promote education and awareness of corruption-related issues among young people and from an early stage of professional development, in order to promote a culture of integrity and social responsibility."
According to the same source, DNA claims that although, as the report mentions, "the perception of experts, citizens and business executives is that the level of corruption in the public sector remains high", the institution will continue to focus its resources and efforts to combat corruption in these vulnerable areas and will strictly comply with all European recommendations in this regard.
