The number of arrivals recorded in tourist accommodation units (including apartments and rooms for rent), between January 1 and September 30, 2025, amounted to 10.952 million people, down 1.8% compared to the same period in 2024, according to data released by the National Institute of Statistics (INS), on Wednesday.
Of the total number of arrivals, between January 1 and September 30, 2025, arrivals of Romanian tourists in tourist accommodation units represented 82.2%, while arrivals of foreign tourists represented 17.8%.
Overnight stays recorded in tourist accommodation units (including apartments and rooms for rent), amounted to 23.875 million during the reference period, down 0.9% compared to the figure recorded in the same interval in 2024.
Of the total number of overnight stays recorded in the first 9 months of this year, overnight stays of Romanian tourists in tourist accommodation units represented 83.3%, while overnight stays of foreign tourists represented 16.7%.
The average length of stay in the first 9 months of 2025 was 2.2 days for Romanian tourists and 2.0 days for foreign tourists.
The net occupancy rate of tourist accommodation units was 30.8% January through September 2025 per all tourist accommodation units (including apartments and rooms for rent), down 1.0 percentage points compared to January 1 - September 30, 2024.
By country, most foreign tourists came from Germany (194,800 people), Italy (162,200 people) and Israel (124,100 people), over January 1-September 20, 2025.
Also, INS data show that arrivals recorded in September 2025 in tourist accomodation units (including apartments and rooms for rent) totaled 1.261 million people, down 4.0% compared to September 2024.
Of the total number of arrivals, in September 2025, arrivals of Romanian tourists in tourist accommodation units represented 78.3%, and arrivals of foreign tourists 21.7%.
Overnight stays recorded in tourist accommodation units (including apartments and rooms for rent) totaled 2.709 million, in September 2025, down 2.4% against September 2024.
Overnight stays of Romanian tourists in tourist accommodation units represented 80.3% of the total overnight stays in September 2025, while overnight stays of foreign tourists accounted for 19.7%.
The average length of stay in September 2025 was 2.2 days for Romanian tourists and 2.0 days for foreign tourists.
The net utilization index of tourist accommodation units stood at 30.2% of the total tourist accommodation units (including apartments and rooms for rent), in September 2025, down 1.6 percentage points compared to September 2024.
