The interim chairperson of the National Liberal Party (PNL), Ilie Bolojan, said that, from the party's point of view, Crin Antonescu is the coalition's candidate for the presidential elections, maintaining that PNL will convene the National Council meeting to nominate Antonescu as its candidate as soon as the election calendar is established, Agerpres reports.

"We have agreed to designate the candidate, as you have specified, in the internal fora of each party and PNL, as soon as the election calendar is established, will convene the National Council to designate the candidate for president, according to the provisions of the state. This means that in a few days, up to 7 days, after the calendar is established, as we have discussed, Mr. Crin Antonescu can be designated the candidate supported by the PNL and that's what we agreed that the other parties would do, in compliance with their party statute and its deadlines," Bolojan told private broadcaster Digi 24.

He mentioned that given there is a candidate supported by the coalition it is necessary, "in order not to repeat some of the mistakes that were made in the local elections in Bucharest", that he has a campaign staff, established in agreement with the parties, to have a logistic that is made available, "so that the communication related to the presidential candidacy is a priority".

Asked if Antonescu is still the coalition candidate for the presidential elections, Ilie Bolojan said, "As far as PNL is concerned, Mr. Crin Antonescu is the coalition's candidate, it is just a matter of formalizing this within PNL, but before making that announcement I had a consultation with the party's select leadership and within PNL there is no problem regarding the support of Crin Antonescu's candidacy".

Former PNL leader Crin Antonescu considers the agreement concluded with the parties in the ruling coalition for his support for the position of head of state suspended, emphasizing that this does not mean that he is no longer willing to run, but that he is dissatisfied with the unwillingness of the respective parties to support him and with the lack of a clear date for the elections.
