Acting Health Minister Attila Cseke gave assurances at a press conference on Wednesday that there are no funding issues at the "C.C. Iliescu" Institute and that surgical procedures will continue, with all expenses covered.
"I have held several discussions following these announcementswhich I first learned about through the press, something I do not consider normal. This is a Ministry of Health hospital, and if it faces issues, it must inform the Ministry. Following the discussions I held and the events of this weekI actually met with Manager Ceau?u just todayI can confirm there are no problems at the 'C.C. Iliescu' Institute. Procedures and surgeries will continue, including those already scheduled; they are not being interrupted or suspended starting Friday. (...) All expenses are covered," the minister emphasized.
According to him, the Bucharest Health Insurance House has "allocated additional funds" to allow the procedures to continue.
"I can reassure the patients of the 'C.C. Iliescu' Institute: funding for these procedures is available; there are no issues," stated Attila Cseke.
On Wednesday, PSD MP Alexandru Rogobete, a former Minister of Health, called on interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan to urgently increasedrawing from the Government's reserve fundthe amounts allocated to the Ministry of Health and the National Health Insurance House, in order to prevent the collapse of hospitals and the emergency medical system.
He cited the 'C.C. Iliescu' Institute in BucharestRomania's largest cardiovascular disease and heart transplant centeras an example, noting that in September, the National Health Insurance House allegedly failed to allocate funds for its major programs, including open-heart surgery and other cardiac-specific procedures.
"What is happening is unprecedented. Starting Friday, the 'C.C. Iliescu' Institute in Bucharest will halt elective procedures and treat only emergenciesand even those only until supplies run out," stated Rogobete.
