The National Audiovisual Council (CNA) announces the development of a guide to combat illegal online content for media literacy and the prevention of disinformation and harmful content online for minors, a tool to be promoted in schools and universities in Romania.
"Media education is one of the important missions of the CNA, all the more so as the online environment can be a source of disinformation and illegal content, harmful content for minors. As a guarantor of the public interest, the CNA has designed a guide to combat illegal online content," CNA reported on Wednesday in a press release signed by CNA Deputy Chairman Valentin-Alexandru Jucan.
This guide is designed in a clear, easy-to-understand form, and can be used by journalists, communication experts, teachers and students. It is the object of a partnership with the Ministry of Education and Research.
"The objective of the partnership between the National Audiovisual Council and the Ministry of Education and Research is to submit the guide to all schools and universities in Romania. Also, within this joint approach, the Ministry of Education and Research recommends that the guide be discussed with students and sent to parents, and in universities the guide can be the subject of debate on harmful or illegal online content."
The guide provides information on what audiovisual content is, the way in which a complaint can be made to the CNA, the removal order and its legal basis, the types of illegal content that can be subject to a removal order, the platforms from which the illegal content can be removed, the time in which the CNA issues the removal orders and the time in which the large platforms react, the measures adopted in case they do not comply, the way in which the CNA can effectively eliminate the illegal content and the way in which parents can protect their children from such type of content.
According to the CNA, this joint action is aimed to raise awareness over the risks of the online environment, and also to provide prompt information of the public on how to get involved in notifying illegal content on the major social platforms.
