The Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) strongly condemns the refusal of the Social Democratic Party - National Liberal Party - Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (PSD-PNL-UDMR) parliamentary majority to place on the agenda of the Senate plenary session AUR's request for the convening of an extraordinary session of Parliament, asking it to exercise its fundamental role, as "representative forum of the Romanian people.", informs Agerpres.

"AUR strongly condemns the refusal of the PSD-PNL-UDMR parliamentary majority to introduce on the agenda of the Senate plenary session our request for the convening of an extraordinary session of Parliament, essential for the return to a legitimate constitutional framework. The representatives of PSD, PNL and UDMR voted against AUR's request in the Senate's Standing Bureau," according to AUR.

The alliance claims that the current government resorts to institutional blockages against the opposition on the subject of the November 24 2024 presidential election having been annulled.

"The annulment of the presidential election has created an unprecedented political and constitutional crisis, and the blocking of this approach shows the contempt of the three ruling parties for the rule of law and the will of Romanians. Instead of allowing, through debate, a democratic solution to this situation, the current government resorts to institutional blockages against the opposition. We ask the majority to renounce these anti-democratic practices and allow Parliament to exercise its fundamental role, as a representative forum of the Romanian people."
