The Alliance for the Unity of Romanians (AUR) requests that the Parliamentary Control Committees into the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) and Foreign Intelligence Service (SIE) verify "the reason for the visit by the head of the French foreign services to Romania" and demands from them an "official" and "non-secret" response.
"The Alliance for the Unity of Romanians (AUR) today sent, through its representatives in the two parliamentary control committees into the SIE and SRI activities, requests to investigate the involvement of foreign interference in the electoral process in Romania. (...) AUR requests from the two Committees an official and non-secret response regarding the veracity of the information and the position of the SRI and SIE about the reported information, as soon as possible. National sovereignty and the integrity of the electoral process are not negotiable", AUR informed in a Fridays press release.
According to AUR, "according to information published in the public domain, Nicolas Lerner, the director of the Directorate General for External Security (DGSE) - the main foreign intelligence service in France - allegedly paid a visit to Bucharest just two days before the second round of the presidential elections on May 18, 2025. During this visit, he allegedly had meetings with the leadership of some intelligence services in Romania, later traveling to the Republic of Moldova".
AUR added that the founder of the Telegram platform, Pavel Durov, "just before the voting day, sent an official message to all users in Romania, warning that the French Government allegedly asked him to silence conservative voices in our country". "Later, in a post on the X platform, Durov stated that the request allegedly came directly from Nicolas Lerner", the AUR press release says.
