Spokesman of the Alliance for the Union of Romania (AUR) Dan Tanasa criticized on Tuesday president of the Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR) Marian Enache, as well as Romania's acting President Ilie Bolojan for the explanations they provided for the annulment of the December presidential election, with the AUR lawmaker remarking that it appears that the ballot was canceled "in the name of democracy, without any evidence".
"Constitutional Court president, Mr. Marian Enache came out with explanations in a public interview - we gather that he does not know aan old Romanian saying: he who excuses accuses himself. The CCR president came out to explain to us how Romania's election was democratically annulled, in the name of democracy. We are practically seated together with another two banana republics, the third country in the world to have elections canceled and, as per Romanian democracy made by the PSD, PNL and UDMR, this was done in the name of democracy, without any evidence. We also saw the stunning, shocking interview of President Bolojan. We hereby ask Mr. Bolojan to not be an accomplice in the coup d'état of December 6, 2024," Tanasa told a press conference at the Palace of Parliament.
According to him, it is "unacceptable" that a decision to cancel an election is made "behind closed doors, based on alleged reports, memos, intelligence service notes, and that Romanians are not informed about the aspects that led to this decision." Tanase concluded by saying that "we therefore ask Ilie Bolojan, after Klaus Iohannis practically fled the scene, we ask Ilie Bolojan not to continue this masquerade and not be an accomplice to this coup d'état."
