Amid forecast of heavy rainfall in the next three days, with amounts expected to reach even 110 - 120 l/sq m in the southeast of the country, the authorities must stay alert, Secretary of State with the Ministry of Environment, Waters and Forestry Raul Pop said, citing a Red Code advisory issued by the National Weather Administration for the counties of Constanta, Ialomita and Calarasi. Also, mountain areas above 1,700 meters will experience snowstorm.

"The soil is already saturated with water, and the upcoming large amounts of precipitation can result in river defense levels being overpassed in certain spots. Romanian Waters Administration crews must be prepared for action and the authorities must be up and running for fast intervention wherever needed," Pop told a meeting of the Ministerial Committee for Emergency Situations.

Minister of Environment, Waters and Forestry Diana Buzoianu called on Monday a meeting of the respective committee to address the weather warnings and alerts, as well as the Code Yellow, Orange and Red hydrological warnings issued by the National Weather Administration and the Institute of Hydrology and Water Management.
