The Air Force remains an essential pillar of the Romanian Army, undergoing a process of modernization and adaptation to new security challenges, President Nicusor Dan conveyed in a message on Sunday, on the occasion of Romanian Aviation and Air Force Day.

"The ongoing procurement and training programs strengthen the ability of these forces to carry out a wide range of missions, both military and civilian, in collaboration with other structures within the national security system. In the current security context marked by the Russian Federation's continuing war of aggression against Ukraine, the Air Force, together with the other components of the Romanian Army and our allies and partners, is making a decisive contribution to maintaining a credible deterrence and defense posture across NATO's Eastern Flank," the head of state emphasized.

Nicusor Dan expressed his gratitude to all military and civilian personnel within the Air Force, whether active, reserve, or retired, for their professional conduct during combat missions and military exercises, as well as in theaters of operations.

"Today, July 20, we celebrate Romanian Aviation and Air Force Day, along with the feast day of Saint Elijah the Prophet, the symbolic protector of daring aviators. It is an appropriate moment to express our respect and gratitude to all military and civilian personnel within the Air Force, whether active, reserve, or retired, for the professional manner in which they have acted during combat missions and military exercises, as well as in theaters of operations, alongside our allies and partners. This day also gives us the opportunity to pay tribute to the pioneers of Romanian aviation, as well as to those who lost their lives on the front lines, in training missions, or during emergency interventions," said the president.

He congratulated the aviators for the courage and earnestness with which they carry out their missions, qualities that are also appreciated by Romania's allies.

"I wish you good health and success, and I congratulate you on the courage and earnestness with which you carry out your missions, qualities that are also appreciated by our allies. I encourage you to continue with the same dedication, spirit of sacrifice, and devotion. Happy birthday to the Romanian Air Force and Air Force!" conveyed the head of state in a message presented by Mihai Somordolea, state advisor with the Department of National Security - secretary of the Supreme Council for National Defense, during the ceremony held at the Monument to the Heroes of the Air in Bucharest.
