Chairman of the ruling Social Democratic Party (PSD) Liviu Dragnea said on Monday, just short before walking into the party's National Executive Committee meeting, that the event lying ahead is "unpleasant", as proposals will be made to close for good a period fraught with ''conniving and dealing by fellow partymen to topple the PSD government."
"We'll now go to the National Executive Committee sitting, regrettably an unpleasant but necessary meeting, as most of our colleagues have said it. We'll talk after the meeting. Several of us will propose closing the door on this period during which party fellows have connived and colluded to topple the PSD government. This cannot be allowed to happen," Dragnea said at the Palace of Parliament, just minutes before the CEN meeting was due to start.
Dragnea had previously stated that expulsions from the party were highly likely. The meeting of the National Executive Committee was due at noon at the Palace of Parliament - at the hall of the Social Democrat group.
According to Dragnea's Friday statements, the meeting was supposed to discuss proposals for the Financial Supervisory Authority and the National Audiovisual Council.
