Any destabilization of the Government would be an act of gross irresponsibility, stated on Wednesday the Minister of Investments and European Funds, Dragos Pislaru, present at the regional conference "The Economist Romania Government Roundtable".
"I would like to tell you strongly and explicitly that any destabilization of the Government would be an act of gross irresponsibility, both for the reasons I discussed earlier, related to the global fuel crisis, and when you have such a crisis, you certainly have to have increased responsibility, and, from my perspective, related to the implementation of this PNRR, which also affects the budget and the future of Romania in the medium term. To make the message I am sending very clear. I can understand political ambitions, I can understand populist measures in search of votes, but I cannot understand why you would set your own country on fire with ambitions of this type. Therefore, my appeal from a clear position, as a manager, and, let's say, coordinator of this crucial area of investment in European funds, is that what we manage to do in the government between ministers, that is, to "Let's understand, let's collaborate, let's manage to move things forward, let's not be affected by some wrong decisions of any of the parties in the coalition, especially with this repeated threat in the public space for several months, that they are thinking of leaving the coalition or other options like this. It is an act of irresponsibility and clear political immaturity," said Dragos Pislaru.
Asked by journalists about the pension law, he stated that once the milestone on special pensions was met, the requirements of the PNRR regarding pensions were met.
"I believe that the issue of pensions is an important one. We have the generation of decrees that will retire soon and we need to continue the sustainability elements of the public system, even if Brussels no longer asks us to. And that is why the statements that the Prime Minister has made recently must be seen in a broader context of the sustainability of public finances. Regarding the salary law, things are under control here. Minister Florin Manole, the Minister of Labor, is working on the salary law bill. As I was telling you, the bill will be adopted this year and will be implemented gradually, depending on the fiscal space, in the following years," declared Dragos Pislaru.
He mentioned that the final date for the promulgation of this law is August 31st.
Pislaru also stated that the major reforms that remain in the PNRR have a value of about 900 million euros, with small differences from case to case.
"And that's why it's important to make this statement now. There will be no reform, of those that we have until August 31, that we won't do, because the cost is far too high and we can't afford it. Therefore, my concern, obviously, is more related to investments and the investment calendar that needs to be pushed. On the reform side, it's non-negotiable that we can complete the reforms on time and we're working closely with the reform and investment coordinators, with the line ministries, to make sure that the reforms are delivered. I'm not saying, to be very clear, that these are easy reforms or that there will be things that have already been resolved, but I believe that, including through the information that I'll give tomorrow or the day after tomorrow, depending on when the government meeting is, we have very clear measures to keep these things short, so that we can see them accomplished," said Dragos Pîslaru.
