The Senate plenary sitting passed on Wednesday a legislative initiative aimed at standardizing the digital design and accessibility of public digital services, with the goal of facilitating the citizens' access to these services.

The bill, initiated by a group of the Save Romania Union (USR) MPs, stipulates the implementation of the Unified Digital Design System (SUDD), meaning a common set of rules and components applicable to the state's digital services - from forms and error messages to document uploads, confirmations, notifications and tracking the status of a request.

Currently, public institutions use separate platforms and websites, with interfaces and processes that vary from one institution to another.

"What we want is simple: once you have learned to use one digital service of the state, you should be able to use the others without difficulty. We need a coherent, easy-to-understand and user-friendly digital state, one that eliminates unnecessary differences between institutions. The SUDD is a concrete step towards a simpler, more predictable state that respects citizens' time," Chairman of the Senate's Committee on Communications, Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence Ciprian Rus said in the plenary sitting.

The legislative proposal will be debated by the Chamber of Deputies, which is the decision-making body in this case.
