Bilateral cooperation in the NATO, EU and UN context was among the topics discussed on Wednesday by Defense minister Angel Tilvar and Japanese Deputy Defense minister Kimi Onoda, in Bucharest, the Ministry of National Defence informs.
In his speech, the Romanian minister underlined the importance of defense cooperation between Romania and Japan, "which represents one of the pillars of the Strategic Partnership between the two states." The Romanian official highlighted the symbolic significance of 2021, when the two states marked 100 years of bilateral relations, as well as the prospect of developing high-level political-military dialogue, Agerpres reports.
Regarding NATO's agenda, the Romanian official welcomed Japan's recent participation in the NATO Summit in Vilnius, in the context of strengthening NATO's cooperation with Japan, while, in the EU area, he highlighted the close cooperation between the Union and Japan.
At the same time, the Romanian minister of Defense wished Japan success in exercising its mandate as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the period 2023-2024 and highlighted the good cooperation between the Romanian and Japanese military within the UN missions carried out jointly.
