BNR to releases gold coin marking 80th anniversary of treasure evacuation operation

The National Bank of Romania (BNR) is releasing today a gold coin marking the 80th anniversary of Operation Neptune and a special sheet consisting of four banknotes of a face value of RON 10.

Featuring on the obverse of the coin is the Tismana Monastery, the place where the BNR treasure was shipped for safekeeping in 1944, the inscription "ROMANIA" in an arc, the coat of arms of Romania, the face value "100 LEI" and the year of issue "2024."

On the reverse of the coin there are the portraits and names of Constantin Angelescu and Ion Lapedatu, governors of the National Bank of Romania, the Old Palace of the National Bank of Romania in the background and the inscription "OPERATIUNEA "NEPTUN."

The gold coins are legal tender in Romania.

According to BNR, each of the special sheets contains four banknotes with face value of lei 10. The banknotes have consecutive series and the same technical specifications as the banknotes in circulation with face value of RON 10.

The maximum mintage is 1,000 gold coins marking 80 years since the unfolding of Operation 'Neptune' and the maximum printed number of special sheets is 5,000 pieces consisting each of four banknotes with face value of lei 10.

The selling prices are RON 4,200, VAT excluded, for the gold coin, including the presentation brochure and the certificate of authenticity and RON 60, VAT excluded, for the special sheet consisting of four banknotes of a face value of RON 10, including a certificate of authenticity.
