Bogdan Ivan picked for Energy minister

The Social Democratic Party (PSD), National Liberal Party (PNL), the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) and Save Romania Union (USR) at the weekend agreed on their ministerial picks for the ongoing Bolojan Government. Bogdan Ivan is PSD's pick for Energy minister.

Bogdan-Gruia Ivan was born on March 24, 1991.

He attended the Faculty of Political, Administrative and Communication Sciences of the Babes-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca, majoring in Public Administration (2009-2012), being a graduate of this faculty.

PhD student at the Doctoral School of Sociology, University of Bucharest (since 2016), the topic of his doctoral thesis being "Aspects of the organisational specificity of Romania. Socio-organisational models for updating human resources policies among civil servants".

He was the spokesperson for the Bistrita-Nasaud County Council (2012-2020), as well as an expert in developing strategies under the project "Developing strategies and policies to provide equal opportunities to children belonging to vulnerable groups" funded by the EEA Grants 2009-2014.

At the parliamentary election of December 6, 2020 he was elected deputy in Electoral Constituency Bistrita-Nasaud running on the PSD ticket. He was a member on the Committee on Public Administration and Spatial Planning (until Sept. 2023); vice-president (Feb. 2021-Jun.2023) and secretary (2020-Feb. 2021) of the Committee on Information and Communication Technology; member of the Select Committee of the Chamber of Deputies for Automation and the Future of Work.

He was re-elected MP in the 2024 parliamentary election. He is a member of the Committee on Information and Communication Technology and the Committee on Science and Technology of the Chamber of Deputies.

He was also minister of Research, Innovation and Digital transformation in the government led by Marcel Ciolacu, who was sworn in by Parliament on June 15, 2023; acting minister of Family, Youth and Equal opportunities (July 14 - July 19, 2023). He was minister of Economy, Digital transformation, Entrepreneurship and Tourism in the Ciolacu Government, since December 23, 2024. Since May 6, 2025, he has been acting minister of Economy, Digital transformation, Entrepreneurship and Tourism.
