Romanians have the wisdom to vote the right way for our country in the presidential elections in May, interim president Ilie Bolojan said on Friday.
"As far as assessments related to Romania are concerned, we will have in the coming period - being a campaign period - assessments, I believe, both internally and externally on the processes that are taking place in our country, on the competitors, on the electoral campaign, which we have to take as they are. I believe that the important thing is to do what is up to us, here, each of us. If we have an institutional responsibility, we should do our duty so that things function normally, and the competitors should be aware that it is the Romanians who decide who will be president, and I believe that Romanians have the wisdom to vote the right way for our country," Bolojan told a press conference held at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace.
According to the interim president, democracy in Romania sometimes "has left something to be desired" in certain areas.
"If the first round elections were annulled on the basis of interferences that led to the vitiation of the electoral process and all that meant breaches of legislation, financing and so on, this also had effects because our democracy sometimes, in certain areas, has left much to be desired and think about what low trust in institutions means, because this is a component that must make us think and that we must all work on to put it right," he said.
