Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, present in Chisinau on Saturday, declared that in the last 35 years the barbed wire fence between Romania and the Republic of Moldova has been transformed into a space of hope, friendship and solidarity, Agerpres reports.

"There is a special and unique connection between our states. We, in this part of the world, are from the same hearth, we are of the same blood. In the last 35 years, we have transformed the barbed wire fence into a space of hope, friendship and solidarity. Today, Moldovan companies are present in Romania and Romanian companies invest in the Republic of Moldova," said Bolojan, in a joint press conference held with counterpart Dorin Recean.

He highlighted the fact that Romania has built kindergartens, schools and bridges in the Republic of Moldova, equipped hospitals, restored historical monuments and heritage churches. Our country has also "offered energy resources and provided support" for Moldovan citizens in times of crisis.

"We will continue to be by your side, regardless of the times. Romania respects the sovereignty and independence of the Republic of Moldova, being the partner of every Moldovan citizen who wishes to live in a prosperous and free state. The European path is the path to a better life and to the consolidation of freedoms in this country," Bolojan emphasized.

The Head of the Bucharest Executive pointed out that August 23 represents "an inauspicious day in history", through the Ribbentrop - Molotov Pact of 1939, on the basis of which "two dictatorial regimes decided to impose their unjust will" on other European peoples.

"The Republic of Moldova now has a real chance to definitively break away from the consequences of this pact that placed it in Moscow's sphere of influence and to join the free peoples of our continent within the European Union. Joining the Union means anchoring in the space of democratic values, which bring security and well-being. Romania will support the Republic of Moldova without hesitation, as a steadfast friend and committed partner alongside you on the irreversible path to Europe," Ilie Bolojan stated.

According to him, the Republic of Moldova represents "an example of courage" because it has resisted "pressures, energetic blackmail" and propaganda. The Republic of Moldova had to face "the greatest challenges in recent decades, but it walked with its head held high," Bolojan said.

"The Republic of Moldova is today an example of courage, because it has resisted pressure, energy blackmail and propaganda accompanied by hybrid aggression. In the difficult moments you have gone through, the Government in Chisinau has made difficult but correct decisions. President Maia Sandu and Prime Minister Dorin Recean have shown determination, preserved the sovereignty and independence of the state and have won the respect of their own citizens and European partners. It is not an easy road, the Republic of Moldova has had to face the greatest challenges in recent decades, but it has walked with its head held high. The Republic of Moldova has also managed to secure its European path through a referendum, a long-term commitment for future generations," the Romanian Prime Minister declared.

He also stated that he discussed with Dorin Recean aspects related to economic collaboration, large connectivity infrastructure projects and facilitating the transit of the Prut River.

Regarding the European path of the Republic of Moldova, Romania will provide support through the expertise acquired and through European bilateral and cross-border cooperation formats.

"We know what European integration means, because, since Romania's accession to the European Union in 2007, we have benefited from 100 billion euros in European funds and contributed over 32 billion euros to the European budget. Every euro invested was seen in Romania's economy, in local development, in infrastructure and in jobs, and the results were felt in the daily lives of Romanians," he declared.
