Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan sent a message on the occasion of the National Day of Commemoration of the Victims of Fascism and Communism, emphasizing that intolerance and violence can never be presented as solutions, Agerpres reports.
"86 years ago, on August 23, 1939, the odious Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact was signed, by which Eastern Europe was divided between the two totalitarian regimes - Nazism and Communism, led by Hitler and Stalin. This date remains a symbol of the cynicism and brutality with which these regimes destroyed destinies, devastated communities and trampled on freedom. The totalitarianisms of the last century brought mass murder, deportations, famine and terror, and the memory of these horrors must be kept alive", recalled the Prime Minister in the message sent on the occasion of the European Day of Commemoration of the Victims of Stalinism and Nazism and the National Day of Commemoration of the Victims of Fascism and Communism.
He advocated for an open discussion about the past, for assuming historical truth and building a just and strong society.
"Aware of the enormous tragedies caused by these regimes and assuming the historical truth, we have a duty to build a just, strong and truly European society. This day reminds us that intolerance, hatred, abuse and violence can never be presented as solutions and must never be elevated to the rank of state policy. We must speak openly about the past, understand it and learn its lessons, so that freedom, respect and dignity of people remain fundamental values ??of today's Romania", emphasized Ilie Bolojan.
