Brasov-Ghimbav International Airport rose to eighth place in the ranking of passenger traffic across Romania's 17 civilian airports in the third quarter, Brasov County Council President Adrian Vestea announced, adding that the total number of passengers recorded in the first nine months of the year reached 464,248.
This figure has already surpassed the total number of passengers recorded last year, which stood at 337,353, agerpres reports.
"We have overtaken long-established airports such as Sibiu, Targu Mures, Bacau and Oradea and have become the leading air gateway to the Central Region. Between July and September, a total of 192,058 people travelled to and from Brasov using the facilities of Romania's youngest airport, and we maintained eighth place in each of these months. (...) Our success is due first and foremost to you, the people of Brasov and the tourists who choose our services every day, but also to the team of professionals who work tirelessly to ensure that every flight operates in complete safety and under the best possible conditions," Vestea wrote on the Brasov County Council's Facebook page.
In the first quarter of the year, Brasov-Ghimbav International Airport doubled its passenger numbers compared with the same period a year earlier, while the summer months saw record figures.
In July, the airport handled 64,750 passengers, an increase of 88% compared with July 2025. In August, the number reached 69,689, bringing total passenger traffic to 406,000. This exceeded the total number of passengers recorded throughout 2025, which stood at 337,353.
