Romania secured the Director-General position of the Southeast European Law Enforcement Center (SELEC), former Minister of Internal Affairs Catalin Predoiu announced on Wednesday.
"I am very glad that today, on the last day of my tenure, the MAI achieved a success that has been nearly a year in the making: Romania has won the position of Director-General of the South-East European Law Enforcement Centre (SELEC). Madalina-Sorina Vlangar was elected in the first round at the SELEC Council meeting in Bucharest, in a contest against Serbia and Albania. At the same time, this is a vote of confidence for the vision Romania has put forward regarding the organisation's future," Catalin Predoiu wrote on his Facebook page.
According to him, the SELEC, headquartered in Romania's capital, is the only organisation in South-East Europe that conducts operational activities at regional level against cross-border crime.
The organisation brings together 11 countries: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Greece, North Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Serbia, Romania, Hungary and Türkiye.
"Congratulations to my colleagues at the MAI who prepared this candidacy! Congratulations, Madalina Vlangar, and best of luck!," the former interior minister conveyed.
Catalin Predoiu handed over his position as Minister of Internal Affairs to Social Democrat Marian Neacsu on Wednesday.
